Opening Day Royals 2023 – Kansas City, Missouri – The 2022 MLB season is still underway, but MLB announced the 2023 schedule for all 30 teams on Wednesday afternoon.
The Kansas City Royals will open the 2023 season with seven games at Kauffman Stadium against the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays. The home opener will be March 30 against the Twins. The Royals will play three games against the Twins before former Kansas City shortstop Whit Merrifield prepares to return to Kaufman, while the Royals host a four-game set with the Blue Jays.

The schedule will be significantly different from previous years as 30 teams face each other in an MLB season for the first time.
The schedule will feature fewer divisional and non-division championship games and more interleague games to compensate for this.
In previous years, the teams played 76 games against division opponents, 66 against non-league opponents and only 20 games between leagues.

Now for next year’s schedule, the interleague games will double to 46 games and fewer games against division and non-league opponents. The Royals will now play 52 games against division opponents and 64 against non-division opponents.
So Royals fans can now expect the team to play either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Mets every year rather than once every three years.
It was common practice in MLB that the current season was still in progress. but paired with white pants. For the past 15 seasons, the Royals have played in this blue jersey, but have never worn matching pants.

“Powder Blues was first performed in 1973 at the request of Muriel Kaufman. So to celebrate the 50th
Anniversary, we’re bringing them back to Open Day,” Royals Senior Vice President – Chief Revenue and Innovation Officer Sarah Tourville explained in an email to SportLogos.Net. “Opening Day, March 30, 2023, marks the first time the Royals have worn a ‘full’ powder uniform at home here in Kansas City. Before that, it was street uniforms.”
Currently, the plan is for the blue pants to be worn only during opening day games before reverting to regular white pants with blue jerseys for the remainder of the run. Although the band said there is little chance they will return for an encore later in the season.
Mlb Releases 2023 Schedule: All 30 Teams Will Play Each For First Time
Kansas City was the last American League club to wear powder blue on the road at any time. In 1992, they switched to baseball’s traditional gray with the Montreal Expos of the National League. Several high-profile players have worn Royals blue uniforms during their playing days, including George Brett, Brett Saberhagen, Kevin Appier, Gaylord Perry, David Cone, Harmon Killebrew and Orlando Cepeda. However, competition for a roster spot is fierce as manager Matt Quatraro and his staff have whittled the big camp down to 26 players — 13 batters and 13 pitchers — for Opening Day.
Perez will begin his 12th season in the Majors as the Royals’ starting shortstop. Melendez’s backup is likely to be the Royals’ starting left fielder. Fermin was added to the lineup during the offseason to provide catching depth in case Kansas City stalled.
Pasquantino will be in the lineup every day, either starting or as the designated hitter. If Nick Pratto is in the lineup on day one, his defense is a good option early on. Either way, the Royals likely have both Pasquadino and Prato this season.

Massey is a better hitter than Nicky Lopez, but Lopez is a better defender (and more versatile). The competition will be strong this spring. For now, let’s focus on second baseman Massey, as there’s reason to believe his 93 wRC+ in 52 big league games last season was the starting point for his offense.
The Royals believe third base is Dozier’s best chance to get playing time every day as he tries to reverse the fortunes of the past two seasons. But Nate Eaton is a viable option at third and outfield, as is Matt Beaty, who is not invited. Despite insisting on playing Bobby Witt Jr. at shortstop, the Royals were able to move him to third and keep Michael Garcia.
The Royals traded Adalberto Mondesi to the Red Sox to make way for Witt to stop and want the 22-year-old to play there all season. Garcia, the Royals’ No. 5 prospect, has been praised for his defense and could score at third or second this spring and early in the Triple-A season.

Royals Michael A. Midfield is a big competition this spring after Taylor was traded to the Twins. That leaves room for either Isbell or Waters, and both will get plenty of looks there this spring. The Royals want to see what each of them can do with their daily playing time. It’s not hard to imagine one in the center and one on the right for early 2023.
Despite his injury woes last season, Olivares showed what he’s capable of, hitting .286/.333/.410 in 174 plate appearances. His defense still needs to improve, but he can play right field and serve as a fourth out if needed.
Camargo, 29, can play in the goal area and would be an excellent backup midfielder. A former Dodger, Beaty can play the corner in center field and in the outfield, and the Royals believe he still has something to unlock with his bat. Both are unlisted guests. Lopez will have every opportunity to take the starting role.

While Greinke, Singer and Lyles seem like castles, the bottom two spots are a contest between several contenders: Lynch, Keller, Ryan Yarbrough, Jonathan Heasley, Chris Bubic, Jackson Koyer and Angel Zerpa. Lynch appears to have an inside track to that fourth spot, and the Royals continue to like what Keller can bring as a starter, especially as he’s worked to get his curveball back in the offseason. Kansas City is open to those who don’t want to make a relief rotation or go to Triple-A and prepare to start the roster.
Midfielders (8): Ryan Yarbrough, Scott Barlow, Aroldis Chapman, Taylor Clark, Carlos Hernandez, Amir Garrett, Josh Stowmond, Josh Taylor
Richard Lovelady, Colin Schneider, Jose Cuas, Dylan Coleman and Max Castillo, along with those listed above, will compete for spots on the Royals staff this spring. Yarbrough is likely to fill the swingman role by playing multiple rounds from a “pen or starting spot.” Barlow and Chapman will unload backrooms, while Staumont and Clark will get a chance to perform in high-leverage situations. Taylor’s return to Mondesi offers an interesting lefty prospect if he stays healthy. Major League Baseball has released its 2023 schedule, and the Royals will open their home slate on March 30 against the Minnesota Twins. This year’s schedule will be more balanced, with the number of intra-division games dropping from 76 to 52, as well as more interleague games where each team plays the other baseball team.

The Royals will get their first taste of action on their first road trip of the year, which will take them to San Francisco to play the Giants and Texas to play the Rangers. Their biggest road trip of the year comes in late April when they play the Angels, Diamondbacks and Twins for ten games. It follows their biggest home stretch of the year in early May, when the Orioles, Athletics and White Sox host.
The Royals will face the Cardinals in St. Louis on May 27-28. The odd Sunday off will be followed by two home games on August 11-12. The Royals also have unusual surprises on May 31st and June 1st off. Kansas City closes out the season with a home series against the New York Yankees in the final game on October 1st. The Royals will face five. Halter Top Day will return this season as part of various bobbleheads and their 2023 promotional program, which was released this week.
Figure giveaways begin with Opening Day against the Twins on Thursday, March 30, when fans will receive a Bobby Witt Jr. figure. Other bobblehead giveaways are limited to the first 15,000 fans:
