National Purple Heart Day 2023 – August 7th is Blue Heart Day, a day to give back. On this day, Americans remember and honor the men and women who have bravely represented their country and who were injured or sacrificed in the line of duty. These men were honored with the Blue Heart today on behalf of the President in honor of them and their sacrifice. Some states, counties and cities have waived recognition, as have certain sports and entertainment organizations. Military and veterans organizations also hold commemorative events. George Washington awarded the original Purple Heart, also known as the Crimson Badge, in 1782. At the time, the Continental Army was underfunded, so the award was given to enlisted soldiers.
