USA Equestrian has announced the 4*, 3* and advanced events approved under the new calendar process. Notable new dates on the calendar include TerraNova hosting its first CCI4*-S this month, as well as the new CCI4*-S and Advanced Kentucky Classique in early September. US Equestrian is pleased to announce that the USEF Board of Directors has approved the hosting of CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L and Advanced level events for 2023-2027. in the annual competition cycle in accordance with the new calendar event process. The new process is designed to develop a more efficient US athletics calendar to properly develop and prepare high-performance horses and athletes to compete in long-format international events and championships in the United States and around the world.
All US organizers were invited to submit bids to host the CCI4*-L, CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L and advanced levels through a bidding process. The distribution of CCI4*-L grants was announced on August 21. Approved bids meet the criteria outlined in the US 2023-2027 Annual Events Calendar CCI4*-L, CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L and Advanced Policies and Procedures. USF’s Competitive Bid Review Board presented its recommendations to the USF Competitive Sports Committee and the USF International Disciplinary Board prior to board approval.

Although bid selections extend to 2027, each organizer will be required to submit an annual license renewal that will be reviewed as part of the USEF’s competitive licensing process, which may include a competitive evaluation. During the five-year cycle, each competition may be evaluated annually to ensure that it continues to meet the standards expected to be included in the approved levels, and the USEF may determine that deficiencies or other issues may result in denial of license renewal or removal altogether. In June 2021, USEA sent out a request for expressions of interest to host the AEC in 2023 and 2024. Several cities submitted attractive proposals, of which the USAA Council voted to select the Kentucky Horse Park as the 2023 and 2024 site. Pending contract negotiations. USEA has begun final rulemaking discussions with EEI and the Mary Fike host team for the 2023 and 2024 AECs and expects to complete the process in the coming months.
The 2022 AEC will be held August 30-September 4, 2022 at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell, Montana. Kentucky’s proposed date for the 2023 AEC is August 29 – September 3, 2023, followed by the 2024 AEC from August 27 – September 1, 2024.

Among the AEC seats of interest in 2023 and 2024 was a strong bid from Stable View in Aiken, South Carolina. Ultimately, in their deliberations, the board explained that the popularity of the Kentucky Horse Park and their confidence in EEI and the Mary Fike management team were the basis for their decision. EEI and Mary Fike hosted the first AEC in 2019 at the Kentucky Horse Park with 925 registered attendees, making it the largest event in North American history. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 AEC was canceled, but the event returned to the Kentucky Horse Park in 2021. The 2021 AEC received more than 1,200 entries and 939 competitions, surpassing 2019’s record as the largest event in North American history. .

The Kentucky Horse Park maintains world-class arenas including 600 acres of cross-country skiing, 1,200 permanent stalls with access to additional temporary stalls, and the iconic Rolex Stadium. The Kentucky Horse Park hosted the 2010 World Equestrian Games and EEI hosts the three-day Land Rover Kentucky event each April.

Unlike many other show countries, competition trainers do not require certification to teach or train in the United States. In many other countries, and certainly in globally competitive countries, there is a process through which instructors and trainers are trained and then certified to teach and train. In contrast, here in the US, certification is optional. Coaches can choose to complete the ECP program without penalty or interference with their legal right to earn as a coach. Accordingly, riders can choose to ride and train with a certified coach or not.
