National Parents’ Day
Mother’s Day is a special day that we honor mothers every year. It’s a great opportunity to shower mom with flowers, gifts, brunch – anything to let her know how much she’s appreciated. But how did the “holiday” begin?
Mother’s Day is from Miss Anna M. Related to Jarvis. Jarvis (b. 1 May 1864 – 24 November 1948), a devoted daughter who was concerned about the neglect of mothers and older children.
When his mother died in 1905, Jarvis was devastated. The following year, he asked his friends to come to his church in Grafton, West Virginia, on the first Sunday in May to celebrate the anniversary of his mother’s death. In 1907, Jarvis promoted a Mother’s Day service at the church and gave flowers (his mother’s favorite flowers) to every woman in the congregation.

Anna Jarvis worked hard to promote the holiday, writing letters to churches, politicians and city leaders. He hired John Wanamaker (a pioneer in advertising and marketing) and Henry J. He enlisted the help of Heinz (of Heinz ketchup fame), and it worked.
Jarvis’s efforts eventually led to a resolution by Congress to designate the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day. By 1911, all states of the Union had Mother’s Day proclamations. And he was clear that the holiday will be called “Mother’s Day” (one) – “to honor the best mother who ever lived – yours”.
Unfortunately, after some time, Anna M. Jarvis was fired during the Mother’s Day holiday, saying that it had become too commercial. So much so that by the 1920s, he began to persuade people to stop buying flowers and other gifts for mothers, even arguing with the flower industry and other industries that had previously helped him fight.

He decided that the best gift for his mother was to write a heartfelt letter. “Every mother chooses a curve line worse than any top card for her son or daughter,” he said. He began to hate the holiday until his death in 1948, but his holiday continues.
According to human culture, gardeners must follow several rules. Whether it’s planting on Good Friday or waiting until three ice men pass by to take your seedlings from the ground, science and tradition have a lot of advice to give, and many swear by these words from our ancestors to plant well, bearing fruit. garden
A popular piece of planting wisdom suggests that you shouldn’t plant everything until Mother’s Day, better known as the “Mother’s Day Rule.” What is it and is there any truth to it?
History Of Mother’s Day: How Mother’s Day Came To Be
The reason is simple – Mother’s Day falls on the second week in May, which for many has passed the threat of frost and is considered safe to start your garden. That’s a good rule of thumb because as we all know, when the calendar says spring, it doesn’t mean we’re going to have spring temperatures in March and April (especially for us in the Northeast).
If your tender plants get to the ground too early, when temperatures are still in the 20s and 30s, you are putting yourself at risk.
Yes, those who live in hot and dry places have their own rules about when to plant, and a lot depends on the plant and its dryness.

Myths aside, every successful gardener knows that understanding a plant’s hardiness (its ability to withstand cold) is important. All plants have different levels of hardiness; Some grow best in cold weather, while others prefer good, warm soil. Before you start, check the size of each seed packet (or greenhouse label). See the USDA hardiness zone map here.
So while the Mother’s Day Rule is great, it’s more than just a “rule” for Mother’s Day. We all know that Mother Nature can be fickle, no matter what part of the country you live in, and it’s not uncommon for snow to arrive by the end of May. But generally, the second week in May is a safe time in terms of temperature.
