In those early days, people believed that if the candles were sunny, winter would last another six weeks, and if the candles were cloudy or overcast, winter would soon be over. Finally, the German public also began to wait in the hedgehog for the predictions of the next spring. If the hedgehog sees his shadow, it will be six more weeks of winter, and if the hedgehog does not see his shadow, he will stay outside, signaling the beginning of spring.
