The movement describes itself as a “global generosity movement” which aims to encourage people to “give together, work together and celebrate”. In response to the 2020 global Covid-19 pandemic, May 5, 2020 is Extra Giving Tuesday.

The University of Toronto invites alumni, friends, faculty and staff around the world to participate in its first All Day Day on March 28.
Husky Giving Day 2023
The day of giving will celebrate UofT’s commitment to inclusive philanthropy – the Defy Gravity campaign aims to raise $4 billion and encourage 225,000 alumni to contribute a million times their time and talents to the university.
The University will match $1,000 in Day of Giving Donations, up to the most recent funding. Alumni are also encouraged to post about their involvement and like and share UofT posts about great students and researchers who are using their diverse experiences, expertise and perspectives to solve societal challenges.
It is wonderful to see how our global community embraces and supports UofT’s role as an enabler of leadership and positive social impact.
Wildcat Family! Giving Day Is Coming Wednesday, March 1
Claire Kennedy (BASc 1989), chair of the Defy Gravity campaign, said it was great to see how the campaign had deepened the scope and impact of the change work taking place across the university. “It’s great to see our global community embrace and support UofT’s leadership and role as an enabler of positive social impact,” he said. “The day of giving gives us a unique one-day opportunity to build on that.”
The university will match U of T Giving Day contributions up to $1,000 in dollars and eventually match the funds.
Donations to the Day of Giving will support student health and success, provide scholarships to students from underrepresented and underrepresented groups, and encourage research on a wide range of global issues. “Creating a more sustainable, prosperous and just future for all is no small goal, but we can do it with the help of our incredible community,” said campaign co-chair John Cassaday (MBA 1981, Hon. LLD 2017). “Through fundraising on the day of giving, we can increase opportunities to help our bright students and teachers thrive.”

Twenty-four hour days are popular in many higher education and charitable organizations across North America because they provide an opportunity to harness the power of collective generosity and build community. Sana Halwani (JD 2004), president of the University of Toronto Alumni Association and member of the Anti-Gravity Campaign steering committee, said she is excited to join her fellow board members for the Day of Giving. “Support contributes to a sense of belonging and is critical to nurturing our students, staff, faculty, volunteers and alumni,” she said.
Ultimately, Kennedy and Cassaday said the March 28 Day of Giving aims to influence and reinforce what makes UofT a special place. “By embracing diverse views, perspectives and cultures, UofT is creating a generation of thinkers who are ready to challenge orthodoxy, ask big questions and push boundaries,” Cassaday said. “It’s exciting and what the world needs right now.”

As part of the day of giving, the university will continue the story of talented UofT students and researchers, including Master of Sustainable Management student Nia Lazarus Munik, whose research aims to help vulnerable communities strengthen, social well-being and environment to improve sustainability. to enrich; Ami Shawanda, a postdoctoral fellow in public health at the Wakebiness-Brice Institute for Indigenous Health; and John David Genus, a first-year electrical and computer engineering student, are working to get more students to see careers in STEM for the future.
