World Caring Day was inspired by an event in 1997 with the nine-day life of a baby named Brigid. Born prematurely, CaringBridge’s first website was created on June 7, 1997, after software engineer Sona Mehring realized there needed to be a better way for friends and family to be informed about their baby’s health. To coordinate with friends and family online, it allowed them to provide for the needs and comfort of Brigid and her family.
