Chocolate Cake Day 2023 – Whether you’re heading to the kitchen or the store for German Chocolate Cake on National German Chocolate Cake Day on June 11, we know you’re celebrating. Traditionally, chocolate cake consists of layers of chocolate covered with a sweet and nutty pecan frosting – but the dessert isn’t exactly German! German Chocolate Cake was named after English-American Sam German, who created a distinctive baking chocolate at Baker’s Chocolate Company.
German Chocolate Cake – A fudge-y, nutty and oh-so-sweet dessert that we all thought was German! The delicacy is defined by rich layers of chocolate cake, bound with coconut-pecan frosting and often topped with maraschino cherries. Although many Americans think that German chocolate originates in Germany, you’d be hard-pressed to find a German who knows this.
Chocolate Cake Day 2023
Anglo-American chocolatier Sam German of Baker’s Chocolate Company first created his own dark baking chocolate variety in 1852. In his honor, Baker’s Chocolate Company named the creation after him and called it “Baker’s German Sweet Chocolate”. It set the stage for the culinary invention of the German chocolate cake and describes the original abuse!
Chez Christophe Chocolate And Pastries
German chocolate cake was actually born almost a century later, in 1957. Dallas, Texas housewife Mrs. George Clay submitted her cake recipe to be featured in The Dallas Morning News “Recipe of the Day.” He called it “German Chocolate Cake” after the pastry he used. However, over time, the “s” was dropped from the recipe.
Not surprisingly, the recipe spread mostly by word of mouth. Sales of Baker’s Chocolate are said to have increased by 73 percent in one year as Bakers began producing more German chocolate cakes. General Foods, the owner of Baker’s Brand, began distributing the cake recipe to other bakers across the country. Today, many bakery companies still make fall desserts!
A cousin of the German chocolate cake, devil’s food is a type of chocolate cake that was created this year.
