Bike To Work Day 2023 Boulder – On Friday, cyclists from across the Northern Hemisphere took to roads and bike paths despite the cold and snow to celebrate International Bike to Work Day. A growing number of Canadians are cycling to work during the winter months. Winter Bike to Work Day is an international initiative to encourage more people to do it, and 2018 was in its sixth year.
Many are already commuting to work, but on Friday many posted about it along with photos of their #WinterBikeToWorkDay rides. Prominent Canadians using two-wheeled motorcycles to get to work include Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson and Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna.

Pumpkin pie is good. Cycling is the best way to burn calories. During December, call or travel by public transportation, carpool, walk or bike. By skipping the drive alone on your morning commute, you’ll be kinder to the environment and better for your health. This month, travelers who complete at least eight green trips by walking, cycling, public transport or driving (other than self-driving) will automatically receive a reward from BOCO Gear, located in Bouldo, along the route. At the end of December, 10 Clean Champions will win winter socks and hats to help them stay warm during the Denver-area winter. Entering the December challenge is easy:
64 companies took part in the Go-Tober challenge, which encourages employees to communicate by phone or get around by bike, foot, public transport or car. Their efforts to improve Denver-area air quality resulted in 27,000 miles of biking and walking in October. The combined mileage tracked is enough to make 45 trips from Denver to Durango on the Colorado Trail! The Go-Tober Challenge prevented 98,317 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere. Check out the company winners and other stats on the Go-Tober page. Cyclists take to the streets of New York City on April 6, 2021. Cities across the U.S. are working to make street biking safer.
If you’ve seen a lot of people riding bikes around town over the past few years, it’s not all over your head. Cycling has exploded during the season, with millions of Americans riding their bikes for the first time in years. Is this the start of a long-term trend?
World Naked Bike Ride 2022: The Biggest Nude Event To Protest ‘indecent Exposure’ To Cars
There are good reasons for hope. Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, with cars and light trucks accounting for 58 percent of all transportation. Switching from a car to a bicycle reduces emissions faster than switching to an electric car.
Clearly, America is not a cycling nation. Only 1% of all work done by Americans – to work, to the store, on vacation by bike, compared to 87% by car or truck.
According to the League of American Bicyclists (LAB), a non-profit organization that collects bicycling data in the United States, the total number of rides by American bicyclists each year decreased during the epidemic years. The number of people who bike to work has increased from 900,000 in 2014 to more than 800,000 in 2019, about 0.5% of all commuters.

“Commuting is down, cycling is up,” said Ken McLeod, LAB’s policy director.
Compare this to the Netherlands, for example, where 27% of workers commute by bike. But Dutch cities have not been bike-friendly, said John Pucher, a professor of urban planning at Rutgers University who specializes in cycling.
“Americans have this image of, ‘Oh, cycling is just heaven, and it’s always been heaven in Europe,'” Pucher told me in an interview with National Geographic’s Electronic Listening program. “Gone, it’s not true!”
Debate Intensifies On How Much Trail Access To Give E Bikes
If some European cities seem like paradise to American cyclists today, it’s because they’ve effectively taken over the cityscape from cars in recent decades, he says. Today, some American cities are starting this trend.
About 70% of people surveyed in the 50 largest cities in the United States said they like to ride a bike. Why don’t they click more? It’s about security. Understandably, half of those surveyed said they were too scared to cycle.
Bike safety isn’t about painting bike lanes on every street, Pucher said. It’s about building a cycle network, a network of cycle paths that can get you from point A to point B safely. bicycle. Roads protected by physical barriers that separate motorcyclists from cars and quiet streets.
The Best Bike Rides In Boulder
“Cycling really needs to be exhausting to be successful,” said Ralph Buehler, chair of Virginia Tech’s Office of Urban Affairs and Planning. “A 40mm lane on a painted roundabout would not be attractive” to a potential cyclist worried about close encounters with cars.
The good news is that even before the outbreak, the bicycle network was expanding in the United States. Between 1991 and 2021, there was a six-fold increase in paved and off-road routes, from 5,904 miles to 39,329 miles, Pucher said. Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Chicago and Los Angeles more than doubled their urban bike lanes between 2000 and 2017, while New York and Seattle tripled.
The increase in protected cycle routes is even greater: their total length has decreased across the country
