Alabama A Day 2023 – National Signing Day is upon us, and the 2023 recruiting cycle is over, and the Alabama Crimson Tide have pulled off their biggest win of the season. Nick Saban’s team put together an insane recruiting class with 9 5 stars and 19 4 stars. Needless to say, this class wasn’t the best this year, but it was one of the best.

Caleb Downs is the top safety, Georgia’s best player, and the sixth best player in the class of 2023. In just 51 games at Mill Creek High School, Downs caught 43 passes in defense and 19 interceptions. He had two seasons with 850+ yards and 24 touchdowns on offense as a senior. Downs signed with Alabama over Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and others.

Alabama took Proctor out of Iowa when he signed early to bolster their starting class. The Des Moines, Iowa native is the best offensive lineman, Iowa’s best player, and ninth best player.

Haynes is Georgia’s second-best player, second-best player, and 24th-best player in his class. As a senior at Buford High School, he rushed 153 times for 1,695 yards and 23 touchdowns. He chose Alabama over Florida, Ohio, and Georgia, his father’s home state.

Ricks was born in 2024 but decided to switch to October. He is a 5-star scout at the IMG Academy in Florida, which has produced elite athletes with a long history. Ricks was ranked the 2nd best player, 6th best player in the state, and 25th best coach in his class.

A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Smith is the best player in the state, the second best defensive player in the country, and the 26th best player in the country. A three-round prospect from Longview, Texas, Hale is the sixth best wide receiver and seventh best player in Texas. Gabe Brooks of 247 highlighted his athleticism, as he jumped bigger than his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. Hale chose Alabama over Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC.

Hurley is the first 4-star player on this list, and everyone above him is a 5-star player. That’s not a knock on him, as he’s the fifth-best cornerback and Alabama’s eighth-best player in this class. He is also very special teams.

Renaud is ranked No. 10 among all recruits and players in the state. As a junior in 2021, he had 66 tackles, 8 TFL and two sacks. He decided to play for Alabama instead of Oklahoma or something.

Holstein was named the 8th best and 5th best player in Louisiana in 2023. As a senior at Zachary High School in 2021, he led his team to a 15-0 record. and named Louisiana 5A. He originally committed to Texas A&M before decommitting in the spring and transferring to Alabama.

Formby is the 8th best player and 11th best player in Alabama. At 6’7″ and 295 pounds, he has good size as he has room to grow. He chose his hometown school over Oklahoma, Ole Miss, etc.

Mitchell is the 9th best safety and 12th Alabama player in this class. He helped Thompson High School to a 39-2 record and won three 7A state titles between 2019 and 2021. Mitchell committed to Alabama, including SEC champions Auburn and Tennessee.

Lonergan is ranked 13th among Georgia quarterbacks and players in the class of 2023. The 247’s Andrew Ivins called him “a big-gun passer who isn’t afraid to stand his ground and get it.” when he put his keys in his pocket.” The Snellville, Georgia product chose Alabama over South Carolina and Stanford.

Osborne was ranked 20th among defensive tackles and 15th player from Alabama in the class of 2023. In 2022, he finished his senior season with 53 tackles, 7 TFL and 2.5 sacks. Osborne chose the Tide over Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee and Texas.

Hill ranks 22nd among defensive linemen and sixth among Missouri players in this class. 247’s Allen Trieu compared his game to Philadelphia Eagles star Javon Hargrave. The Kansas City native chose Alabama over LSU and USC.

McVay is 16th on the league scoring list and the third player from Illinois. Trieu compared his skills to that of lineman Orlando Brown. He chose Alabama over Oregon, Florida, and others.

Hamilton is a four-star prospect from Gainesville, Florida, according to Brooks. “With a good catch radius and midfield body control, he can win soccer matches against smaller defenders.” As a junior, he caught and intercepted 30 passes for 671 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Lockwood is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound four-star TE from Tennessee. Over his final three seasons, he caught 92 passes for 1156 yards and five touchdowns. He committed to Ohio State before jumping to Alabama.
